oh how true!

Tiffanee, a friend from work, sent this to me...

Lobster! Pay attention! ;-)

here's the story...

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly
dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple
of dollars for dinner. I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and
asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy some wine with it instead of
"No, I had to stop drinking years ago", the homeless woman told me.
"Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?" I asked.
"No, I don't waste time shopping," the homeless woman said. "I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."

"Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?" I asked.

"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless woman. "I haven't had my hair done
in 20 years!"

"Well," I said, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight."

The homeless woman was shocked. "Won't your husband be furious with you
for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting."

I said, "That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks
like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine."

happy Friday!

so many choices...

Fall lines look amazing this year but the other thing that has also gotten me very giddy over the arrival of fall is that intimate apparel trends are just as fabulous. As someone who spends just as much effort , if not more effort, on what gets worn under clothing, I am loving the new prints and colors and structures to choose from. Slips are coming back strong - I'm hoping half-slips will follow. It's very old-school but there's something very sensual about them.

I'm really excited Elle MacPherson's new line...I would love to own each and every single one of those pieces. And going through the website makes me feel like a voyeur - the photography isn't static and oh the imagery! Well it just makes me blush!

"...For there is nothing lost but may be found if sought."

You know what I really get a kick out of sometimes? Rediscovering a product! During my Lobster imposed embargo on excessive use of skincare products, I had to put away my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. :-(

But last night, as I was going through my bedtime-ritual, I came across the little brown bottle way in the back of my drawer. Since it was an off-day from my Differin (I only apply it every other night) and my skin has been very dry and irritable due to the Differin, I thought some relief was in order. I patted on a few drops, followed up with moisturizer and woke up to fresh, bright skin.

It's like falling in love all over again!

kai. opera. bombshell. ondine. faith. strada.

Lately one of my biggest pet peeves has been the lovely little nondescript names cosmetic companies use to name their color products. It's fine if I can see the color through the cap or lid but for lines like Laura Mercier and Nars, it's a total lost cause trying to figure out what product is which color - especially when I'm in a rush to get out the door. As a result, those said products hardly get any attention. Bobbi Brown is the exception to the color-naming trend though - not only can you see the colors through the lid but the colors have given names like "bone" and "walnut". Boring? Yes. But it's straight to the point. Not that I don't appreciate the work that I'm sure goes into naming products but what about elaborating a bit - like "opera red" or "bombshell pink". Or even "ondine blue". Which by the way, after some research, I have come to learn is a water nymph from German mythology. And the only thing I could find for "strada" is a chain of Italian restaurants in the UK. Oh! Well that makes TOTAL sense!

ooooohhhhhh! Cake Porn!

This is the most ingenious cake pan I have ever! EVER! seen in my life!

Fight Fugly!

I've been feeling quite "fugly" lately - so much so that I've been avoiding mirrors like a vampire. I finally got waxed and threaded and plucked and and poked and peeled on Saturday and am feeling so, so much better.

The facial at the Ogle school exceeded my expectations - attention Dallas-ite readers - you would be remiss not to try this place out. The basic machine facial starts at $16 and I added 3 additional treatments at $5 each - an enzyme peel, decrustration (I know - it sounds gross but isn't), and some electricity thing that is supposed to kill bacteria and reduce swelling. They did everything I would have had done at Glow but for $50 less. And since it's a school they talk you through everything so you know what they're doing and why. The instructor was close at hand if the facialist had any questions.

I will fo' sho' be making this a part of my beauty arsenal.

"If I knew where you lived, I'd send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils."

Oh! It's that time of year! Know where the quote is from? An extra cookie for you if you do! Anyway, I always get giddy about fall and school supply shopping - the scent of a new box of crayons, the feel of spiral notebooks, the rainbow of highlighters, reams of post-it notes. I don't have much need for crayons anymore (not that that's ever stopped me from buying them) but my list has evolved - here's my "all grown-up" supply list for fall...

grey-gold-ish nail polish - something with just a glimmer of shimmer to offset the jewel tones of the season - like OPI's "I only drink champagne"

fabulous jackets - cropped or not - oh my god there are jackets EVERYWHERE! and I want them all

flats - with my current knee ailment I've been relegated to flat and kitten heels - the timing can't get any better - I see flats in my future but only round toe

Kelly Caleche - Hermes new fragrance for fall takes me places - like the cobblestone streets of Paris. I'm waiting for the first crispness of fall to arrive before I break the seal on box though - just like I'd wait for the first day of school to open my new box of crayons.

pants - highwaist with just a tease of a wide-leg (I'm too short to totally take on the trend) - I'm thinking navy blue.

jeans - a great dark wash with no gradations in tone - maybe even a trouser-type silhouette

color - a berry lipstain - nothing glossy - a "just bitten" color.

Uh. I wonder if there's any connection to the home-perm kit brand...

I have just scheduled a facial with "Ogle School of Hair, Skin, and Nails". Sounds scary I know. Kind of strip-mall-ish. But I am going under the strong recommendation from a friend who goes weekly and I'm having the facial done by a facialist who, after she graduates in September, will be working for Nordstroms in their spa/salon.

The facial is this Saturday and I am as curious as I am excited. With aforementioned creds, how bad can it be? And worse case scenario, there won't be much buyer's remorse. Saturday's facial is only going to cost...Wait for it...$21!

Heck. At $21 a session, even the Lobster - who, as Readers know, thinks that a bar of Dove soap can cure the world - can appreciate it!
